Something Wicked

"The opposite of war isn't peace, it's creation." --Mark, "La Vie Boheme," Rent

Instead of the day of blog-silence I was planning, I changed my mind this morning when I realized the best thing I could do in memory of death and destruction and horror was to create. I spent the morning teaching myself the basics of php templates and started working on galleries for my mom's friend's website and for my Santa Fe '04 photographs.

I doubt I'll finish anything today (well, maybe my mom's friend's website, as that's first on my priority list), so instead, here's a picture I promised Rebecca ages ago. I did the line art back in June, when we were in NYC together, and I just did the coloring a few nights ago.

Elphaba confronts Nessa, from Gregory Maguire's Wicked. Colored pencil. I'm sure it's crazily inaccurate, but oh well. And as is the case in pretty much all experiments with natural media, it looks a lot better in person.

Glee! Nessa's lack of arms looks really cool, but rather disconserting. Strange effect, that. (By the way: what'd they do about that for the musical?) I love that broom handle for inexplicable reasons.

Speaking of NY (or not), I have dogtags! And I've not sent them, because I am bad. Can you drop me a line with your school addy?

Musical!Nessa had arms, but was wheelchair bound due to having deformed legs at birth. *shrug*

And I'll send you my addy now! And as soon as I figure out a good way to send you the original drawing, I will!
